Bride cancels wedding after raking in £23k of ‘donations’ but still asks family and friends for MORE cash
A BRIDE-to-be has enraged her family and friends after raking in £23,000 for her wedding, before postponing it and asking for even more money.
The bride shared a Facebook post where she updated guests that she and her fiancé had decided to cancel their upcoming winter wedding.
She said they’d made the decision after “much reflection” and “tear-filled conversations”.
She goes on to thank all her nearest and dearest who had donated to their wedding fund – seeing the couple rack up an incredible £23,280 ($30,000).
Rather than return the money or put it towards their rescheduled wedding, the couple are blowing it on a honeymoon – but asking for yet more cash for their future nuptials.
The bride wrote in an email: “We thank each of you for your generous early donations to our money fund.
“Can you believe we have raised over $30,000??? Unbelievable!!
“Don’t worry, the money you’ve donated will not be spent in vain but rather used towards a honeymoon in the coming months.
“After we regain financial stability and hold clam in our hearts after a honeymoon we will announce a new wedding date and reopen our money fund for any further gifts.
“Weddings are expensive!”
She said they were “blessed” to have some generous friends, and the cash would help “offset” honeymoon costs while helping to “scale an even better future wedding”.
The bride-to continued: “In the meantime, I’ll be updating our gift fund registry on Amazon if anyone would like to gift us something to take on honeymoon.”
And just in case anyone didn’t get around to donating first time around, she added: “We will keep you updated when we are reopening our money fund and have a new wedding date in the works.”
Her post was uploaded to where it’s since gone viral, racking up more than 17,000 comments.
The guest who shared it also screenshotted some comments from her family and friends – and they’re not happy.
Responding to the bride’s original post, a friend of the groom said: “Is this a f****** joke? After raking in $30k you decide to be greedy and use it all for yourselves?”
One of the bride’s pals wrote: “In all seriousness, is the wedding really cancelled?
“I’ve already gotten the time off work for Dec 1 which is less than a month away.”
Another one of her friend’s commented: “Alright step the f*** back WHAT?”
And in response the bride claimed that she could do what she wanted with the cash, saying: “All, please calm down.
“You’re making me feel very attacked and hanged up on.[sic]
“You chose to DONATE to ME.
“If I want to use the money who cares how?
“I told you the wedding is getting rescheduled not cancelled.”
Those who donated demanded their money back, but the bride said she was going on a media blackout and needed a “week off life” to put her “emotional zen” first.
She claimed she needed to be taken to the doctors because she was “light headed and distraught” – adding she was footing the bill with $2,000 (£1,541) from the money fund.
But she added that in the meantime “please consider donating any spa or personal care items”, and as she’s lost a few thousand on medical bills “we would like more affluent members of the family to consider donations as a courtesy”.
Redditors are also outraged at the bride’s actions, branding her “tacky”.
One person said: “I'm actually speechless. Spending 30k on a honeymoon for a wedding that got cancelled? Wooooow.”
Someone else commented: “’After we regain financial stability’ .... how did 30k not do that and you can still afford a honeymoon? No one is coming to your wedding, honey.”
A third wrote: “She's absolutely delusional.”
Somebody else thought: “This person is clearly a selfish, narcissistic piece of s*** and she still has people who like her enough in life to give her 30 grand.”
This person joked: “The good news is that after this the guest list for the rescheduled wedding will be much shorter and she'll need less money.”
