The Queen insisted on delivering the line ‘Good evening, Mr Bond’ during skit with Daniel Craig
THE Queen insisted on delivering the classic line “Good evening, Mr Bond” when she appeared in a skit with 007 star Daniel Craig.
Her Majesty told aides the other option — “Good evening, James” — would not chime with the spy film franchise.
Royal aide Angela Kelly has revealed the previously unknown story behind the monarch’s appearance during the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.
She told how Her Majesty was “very amused” by film director Danny Boyle’s idea — put to her in 2011 — and agreed immediately.
She added: “I asked then if she would like a speaking part. Without hesitation, Her Majesty replied: ‘Of course I must say something. After all, he is coming to rescue me.’
“I asked whether she would like to say: ‘Good evening, James,’ or ‘Good evening, Mr Bond,’ and she chose the latter, knowing the Bond films.”
The revelation is made in a new book The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser and The Wardrobe — being serialised in Hello! magazine.
Ms Kelly also tells how the royal christening gown worn by Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte was dyed in Yorkshire Tea to replicate one worn by Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter in 1841.
The brand was chosen as “it was the strongest”.
She said: “We placed each piece of lace in a small bowl from the dressers’ kitchen, filled with cool water and a tea bag and left it for about five minutes, checking regularly until the colour was perfect.”
The dressmaker and close confidant also tells how she personally wears in Her Majesty’s shoes before engagements.
She said: “The Queen has very little time to herself and not time to wear in her own shoes, and as we share the same shoe size it makes the most sense this way.”
