Meghan Markle calls on women to ‘stand up for themselves’ in Instagram post – but eagle-eyed fans obsess over typo
MEGHAN Markle has called on women to "stand up for themselves" in a new Instagram post.
However, eagle-eyed royal fans have been left obsessing over a typo in the Maya Angelou quote shared by the Duchess of Sussex's account.
Earlier this month, Meghan, 38, returned from a royal tour to Africa with Harry, 35, and five-month-old baby son Archie, where she focused on the issue of gender and spoke out about violence against women.
In the new post on the @sussexroyal account the Duchess shared a quote by Maya Angelou - the late American poet, singer and civil rights activist - in white font on a blue back background with the Sussex monogram.
It read: "Each time a women [sic] stands up for herself without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women."
The caption added: "Maya Angelou was an American poet, singer, civil rights activist and was hailed as a new kind of memoirist - inspiring people around the world as one of the first African-American women who openly discussed their personal life in order to help others.
"These words, used in The Duchess’ speech on the opening day of the Southern Africa Tour in Nyanga, South Africa, surrounded by the inspiring Mbokobo girls, should always be a reminder that no matter how big or small, your voice has a purpose."
The message quickly garnered more than 35,000 'likes' and over 400 comments.
However, many of the account's 9.6m followers appeared to be distracted from the inspiring message by an unfortunate typo in the social media post - pointing out that the first "women" is actually spelled "woman" in the original quote.
One person simply wrote: "A woman."
Another commented: "Woman*."
A third shared: "Typo... it should read “a womAn.”
And a fourth added: "You mean woman?"
However, others praised her for the message, with one noting: "Thank you Meghan for this important reminder to women all over the world!"
Another wrote: "Love this."
And a third added: "Maya was a true icon. Just as you are Meghan."
