Speaking on Channel 5's Secrets of Royal Dressmakers, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward, shared the touching memory.

According to Ingrid, Ian - who had been Her Maj's dress designer for over two decades - was making some adjustments to a hemline when Prince Philip happened to walk past.

"When he was doing the hem, Prince Philip walked through the Queen’s dressing room and said ‘hmh, nice dress’," explained Ingrid.

"The Queen flushed scarlet. I always remember him telling me that story. She was just so thrilled to get the compliment from her husband."

Ingrid also went on to claim the "worst dresser of all time was Fergie".

"She looked great in her own clothes, in jeans and t-shirts but she was just a disaster in the fashion of the 80s because it was just too much for her," she said.

"It was too frilly, there were too many bows. She said so herself.”

As the wedding took place just two years after World War II ended, when rationing was still in place throughout Britain, Her Maj reportedly ended up paying for her wedding gown with coupons.

According to , just like any other person in the UK, the Queen had to save up her coupons to purchase the materials needed to make her gown.

She did however receive a gift of 200 extra coupons, but it was still a thrifty move from the monarch - who has an estimated net worth of £425 million.

Despite the extreme couponing, the dress was still extravagant in design, made from ivory silk and featuring a 13-foot train.
