Mum claims £2 Schwarzkopf hair cream stopped her daughter getting nits
FOR most parents, taking control of a nit infestation usually involves your child crying hysterically in the bath as you try (in vain) to run a lice comb through their tangled hair.
But it doesn't have to be such a stressful and downright traumatic experience - as parents are raving about a £2 conditioner which they claim makes hair so silky soft, it's impossible for nits to cling to.
In an attempt to help other parents struggling to treat their children's nits, Jess Proctor, from Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, raved about Schwarzkopf's Gliss Hair Repair conditioner on .
She gushed: "Anyone whose kids keep getting headlice, I recommend using this.
"You blow dry it into the hair once it has been washed (don't let hair dry naturally as it won't work), it makes hair so soft that headlice cannot cling to it."
The mum then revealed that her hairdresser Amanda Birch of Toppers Hair Design recommended the product and told her that blow-drying hair straight made it harder for nits to bundle themselves away.
Since she's been using it, Jess added: "My daughter has not had a problem with headlice for about six months now. And it's only £2 from ASDA or Bodycare."
The purse-friendly miracle product contains keratin which is a structural protein that coats the hair, making it look fuller and glossier.
After posting a picture of the liquid silk conditioner on her social media, the mum's post has racked up over 375 comments from parents desperate to give it a go.
One user wrote: "Oooooh wow. We've been using this for the last few months but just for detangling.
"My daughter has never had headlice when a few others in the class have."
Another raved: "I have been using this on my girls for years and they don't get it. It's amazing."
How to treat nits:
- The first thing you should do if you notice your child has nits is to try wet combing
- You can purchase fine-toothed nit combs from pharmacies which are designed to remove lice
- Wet combing involves washing hair with ordinary shampoo, applying a generous amount of conditioner and then combing the whole head of hair - starting at the roots and reaching the end
- Wet comb your child's hair twice a week for a fortnight to catch any newly hatched nits
- If your child still has nits after two weeks, you can buy specialised sprays from a pahrmacy which promise to kill lice within a day
- Parents cannot prevent their children from getting headlice but can catch them early by wet combing regularly
