Stingy mum-of-two blasted for revealing she’ll only get ONE of her children presents this Christmas

A STINGY mum has been blasted online after she revealed she’s only getting ONE of her children presents for Christmas.

Posting on Reddit’s “Am I The A*****” forum, the Christian mum-of-two explained how her and her husband stopped making their teenage daughters attend church when they were 13.

The woman doesn’t want to buy her teenager daughter presents since she started exploring the Buddhist faith

In the past 18 months, one of their daughters has begun exploring the Buddhist faith and attended the family’s church sporadically.

The American mum wrote: “More recently they have been telling us that they are no longer Christian, but they are Buddhists.

“While we are disappointed that they are no longer Christian, I believe everyone is entitled to their own religion and I am proud that my daughter is exploring her faith.”

However, the mum is now arguing that she shouldn’t have to get her Buddhist daughter any Christmas presents as her new faith doesn’t celebrate the holiday.

The teenager has accused her parents of ‘punishing’ her

During family discussions about how they’ll be spending the Christmas break, the mum said: “I mentioned that I wasn’t planning to get our non-Christian daughter any big gifts since her religion doesn’t celebrate Christmas.”

Unsurprisingly, the woman claims her daughter immediately got upset and she tried to backtrack by saying she “would get her some little goodies so she didn’t feel too left out”.

Yet the woman ultimately wants to teach her teenager that she “shouldn’t expect to partake in a religious holiday she doesn’t believe in.”

Needless to say, the teenager doesn’t see it this way and accused her parents of “punishing her for not being Christmas.”

The mum added: “It doesn’t make sense to me to give her gifts to celebrate the birth of Jesus when she doesn’t believe he is our saviour.

My daughter said it’s not fair for us to spend money on our other child’s gifts, but not her and that we were punishing her for not being Christian…

“I told her if she really felt it were unfair, I would donate the amount of money I’d spend on our other kid to a charity of her choice in her name. She didn’t like this either.”

The woman’s dilemma has since racked up thousands of responses on Reddit, with the majority of users taking the teenager’s side.

One replied: “You know damn well you’re doing this as a petty/passive aggressive way to express to your child that you are in fact not supportive of them making their own decision about religion if it isn’t your preferred religion.”

Urging the woman to still include her child in the celebrations, another added: “What does getting presents on Christmas Day have to do with the birth of Jesus Christ? NOTHING.

“Absolutely nothing. It’s a tradition Americans have tacked on to a sacred holiday. If anything, the presents detract from the actual observance of the holiday…”

Reddit users took the teenager’s side and argued Christmas is more of a cultural holiday than a religious celebration

Meanwhile, a third pointed out: “Plenty of people celebrate the Christmas season with gift-giving even though they don’t celebrate the religious aspects of the holiday.

“This sounds like a malicious compliance act, not the act of a loving, supportive parent who is proud that her daughter is exploring her faith.”

In response to the hundreds of comments criticising her approach, the mum replied: “I think my family has a lot of discussion ahead of us and I specially have some growth to do as a mother and a Christian.”
