My boyfriend wants me to leave my younger brothers living alone with my alcoholic mum

DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend wants me to move in with him and his mum but how can I leave my little brothers at home?

I’m a girl of 18, my boyfriend is 20 and we’ve been together for a year.

Mum is 40, with a drink problem. She relies on me to get my two brothers to school if she’s had a heavy night.

My dad left home three years ago because of her drinking. We don’t see him any more.

My boyfriend thinks I don’t love him but it’s not that, it’s just that I can’t leave my brothers alone with my mum.

They’re nine and seven and they’ll end up in care.

DEIDRE SAYS: Only your mum can decide to change but you can encourage her by explaining how worried you are.
