WON'T LIFT A FINGER

I’m a single dad with poor health and my lazy teenage daughter refuses to help look after the house

READ Dear Deidre Editor Sally Land's personal replies to today's problems

DEAR DEIDRE: EMPTYING the dishwasher or cooking a meal seems to be beneath my daughter.

I’m a single dad to the world’s laziest girl.

I’m run ragged between my job and looking after the house, while she only works one day a week and sneers if I ask her to help.

She’s 19 and we’ve lived together since my ex left four years ago.

In that time my mental health has plummeted and I’m so unwell I can’t even drive.

She ignores me unless she’s asking me to pay for something.

MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE

DEIDRE SAYS: Your daughter has had an easy ride and what parent doesn’t want to look after their child?

But she is old enough to do things for herself. So stop paying for her.

Write a list of everything you do to keep the house running, and go through all your responsibilities. Ask her to take on a fair portion.

Dear Deidre: Understanding the impact of ghosting

She is living with you and not contributing financially, so part of her “rent” should be to help around the house.

My support pack Family Finances will help you to get the message across.
