DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my daughter’s husband suddenly left her she was in bits and, as her dad, I didn’t know how to help her.
Out of the blue he told her that he no longer loved her.
It turned out that he was having an affair.
She’s 40, he’s 41 and they have two young children. I’m 68.
My daughter was devastated and things got even worse when he said he wanted to sell the family house.
She couldn’t afford a solicitor.

You were so helpful.
You recommended that I contact the family law advice line Rights Of Women (rightsofwomen.org.uk, 020 7251 6577) and sent me your support packs on Divorce and When Parents Fall Out.
You also recommended that I contact Amicable (amicable.io), a low-cost organisation to help separating couples, and Only Mums (onlymums.org), which assists women with kids.
You understood how upset I was too, and followed up to see how I was, which was so kind.
Although my daughter and her husband have now split, and she and the children are hurting, things are slowly calming down.
Your empathy for a complete stranger helped so much. Thank you.
