You helped me when I fell in love with my GP
DEAR DEIDRE: When I fell in love with my GP, I felt so confused. I knew we couldn’t have a relationship but he was all I wanted in a man – kind, a good listener and funny.
I’m 41 and single, and he’s 45.
I’ve had a lot of unexplained health problems, and he’s always given me more than my allotted time to talk.
Soon, I started to wonder whether, if I stopped being his patient, he might date me. I convinced myself he had been flirting.
I wrote to you for advice. You were understanding and didn’t make me feel stupid but made it clear we couldn’t have a relationship.
You suggested finding another doctor, if it was too awkward. You also gave me your Counselling leaflet, in case I felt that therapy would help me.

DEIDRE SAYS: Many people fall for doctors or therapists who give them care and attention.
I’m glad things are easier and hope you find someone special when ready.
