I’m scared God is going to punish me for my sins

DEAR DEIDRE: I’m in fear of God punishing me because I did something dreadful. I had anal sex with my girlfriend.

I’m a 28-year-old man and I’m a Christian. I met my girlfriend at church.

We’ve been dating for six months and we’ve been having sex for the past month. We are both one another’s first sexual partners.

Last night we went a bit far trying something new. I enjoyed it but my girlfriend has since said she wouldn’t want to do it again.

I fear that this may mean I am now a gay man, because I did like it.

I think I have sinned because you aren’t supposed to have sex that way. I went to confession this morning. I don’t know how else to find forgiveness.

DEIDRE SAYS: You may have had anal sex but this in itself does not necessarily make you a gay man.

Although it is traditionally seen as taboo, it’s also important to outline there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as long as both parties agree.

Some heterosexual couples enjoy anal sex, while plenty of others wouldn’t even want to try.

It is important to discuss it first and not to pressurise anyone into doing something they don’t want to do.

If your girlfriend didn’t enjoy it, there are plenty of other ways of having sex which will spice things up for you. My support pack 50 Ways To Add Fun To Sex explains more.
