You helped me leave my abusive marriage
DEAR DEIDRE: When I realised it was time to leave my abusive marriage, but didn’t have the courage to make the leap, I wrote to you for guidance.
My husband had belittled and gaslit me for years, and I was deeply unhappy.
I am 48 and he’s 49.
For months I had been intending to leave, but kept putting it off. He always managed to worm his way back in, making me doubt myself.
You sent me your support packs, Standing Up For Yourself and Abusive Partners, and advised me to have counselling.
You were so encouraging and made me feel I could reach out to you again, if I needed to.
In fact, you even followed up to see how I was – which was a pleasant surprise.
I am pleased to report that even though things are still difficult, I am coping much better and getting local support.
My husband can no longer manipulate me.
I now feel practically and emotionally ready to leave, knowing I have everything in place.
