My Mum passed away, then my girlfriend did the unthinkable
DEAR DEIDRE: In the middle of Mum’s wake, my girlfriend dumped me.
I’m 47, she’s 43 and we were in a same-sex relationship. We met ten years ago on a speed awareness course and hit it off.
She’s always been the outgoing one, whereas I’m the home bird.
Although we didn’t live together, we loved one another and saw each other regularly every week.
First of all, the sex stopped. There was always some excuse – she was tired, had a headache or she was going out after seeing me.
She then connected with two other women who she started seeing more than me. I never questioned whether anything was going on.
But I did realise there was a problem when my mum got sick and she wasn’t there for me.
She came to the funeral but pulled me to one side during the wake, saying: “Clearly things aren’t good between us.” She then said: “It’s over, but you’ll be fine.” I’m devastated.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m not surprised you are. It was a cold and cruel way to end your relationship.
It is no excuse for her poor timing but she may have made up her mind a while ago that this relationship had run its course and perhaps you didn’t read the signs.
You deserve better than being treated like this.
