DEIDRE SAYS: IT can be overwhelming talking to a new partner and admitting you’ve had an STI in the past.

Unfortunately, not only did James lie about always practising safe sex, he also lied about his previous diagnosis.

There are plenty of effective treatments for STIs which in many cases lead to a cure, but there are still some STIs for which there is no cure – herpes, for example.

James has let you down, but if you still want to give him a chance, ask him to accompany you to an STI clinic to be tested.

Ask him to learn about how he can keep you safe in the future.

My support pack Sexual Health Worries has more advice and information.
