FEELING ACCEPTED

Finding a bond with my boyfriend’s son has made our relationship stronger

DEAR DEIDRE: I KNEW from our first date that my new boyfriend had a little boy from his previous marriage.

But I didn’t expect their relationship to affect me so much.

I’m 28, he’s 32 and the boy is three.

After he introduced us, I loved seeing my boyfriend in dad mode.

But then his son asked me to leave the room so he could have a bedtime story, and I suddenly felt bereft.

I wished I was a mum but I also knew I couldn’t cope with a young child.

You told me I needed to build my confidence and take things more slowly.

I found your advice so sympathetic and comforting.

It made me stop panicking and instead I got to know my boyfriend and his son more.

Now I have a wonderful bond with the little boy and feel less scared about having my own child one day.
