Money worries

I’m on a good salary so why can’t I get out of the red

DEAR DEIDRE: Even though I work full time, I’m trapped in a cycle of debt.

It’s making my life miserable and I often feel so anxious about it that I get panicky.

I’m a 38-year-old single woman and have a good job in IT.

But a few years ago, partly due to a bad relationship and some stupid decisions, I got into a lot of credit card debt.

I swapped my card balances around but when the zero per cent offers ran out, I realised I could only afford to pay the minimum each month.

Then the cost-of-living crisis hit and I had to take out a loan too.

My salary is fairly high but I have virtually nothing left once I’ve paid my mortgage and bills and made the repayments.

I’ve worked out it will take me 30 years to pay everything off. Please help.
