I don’t believe my son took his own life
DEAR DEIDRE: AT the inquest into my son’s death, it was ruled that he took his own life – but I don’t believe the suicide verdict and think he was murdered.
He was a happy-go-lucky 19-year-old. My son loved his job working as a fitness trainer at a gym.
He was involved with body-building but was against using anabolic steroids. He’d say to me, “There’s no gain without pain, Mum.”
I know a group of young men had started going to his gym and using the boxing facilities.
He told me they were all into steroids and he was going to talk to them about it.
Soon afterwards he changed. He became withdrawn and didn’t have the same enthusiasm for work as he did.
He was found dead in a local park wearing one shoe. The other trainer was never found.
The police thought it was strange but as I told them he seemed miserable, they put in their report he had depression.
I think somebody got to him.
