My friends like stranger’s social media updates but never mine
DEAR DEIDRE: I’ve noticed that certain friends never seem to like any of my posts on social media. I can’t help but wonder what I have done wrong.
It doesn’t matter if it is special occasions, sad times, visits to places, holidays, births or deaths – the same people never comment or like my posts.
And yet I see these people, who I thought were my friends, commenting, sharing and liking other people’s updates.
I am a 51-year-old single woman. Recently I put up a whole flurry of posts about the birth of my first grandchild.
And not a sausage. Not even one like.
Have they fallen out with me and I didn’t even realise? I find it really upsetting.
It is not as if I am posting every day. I don’t understand what has happened.

DEIDRE SAYS: Friends who never like your posts may make you doubt if they are your friends, but people are different, and not all will be obvious in the way they support your friendship.
Social media algorithms mean we don’t know who sees our posts and who doesn’t. So the answer may be as simple as they haven’t seen your pics.
Alternatively they may be jealous, uninterested or an infrequent social media user.
Some friendships work on social media, some in real life, the two aren’t always interchangeable.
If a friend shows up for you in person, try to appreciate that and don’t take it personally when they don’t respond to every post you make.
