Dear Deidre helped me to accept my sexuality

DEAR DEIDRE: When I wrote to you I was struggling to come to terms with my sexuality.

I was young, confused and terrified of the reality of being gay.

I didn’t know what to do and I was worried sick about how my family and friends would react.

I’m 25 and male and I wrote to you five years ago asking for help.

You told me that being gay was nothing to be ashamed about.

You also told me not to worry about how my family and friends would react and assured me that when I told them in my own time, if they were truly meant to be in my life they would accept me too.

You also suggested I read your support pack Gay Resources and contact LGBT Foundation (lgbt.foundation, 0345 3 30 30 30) for emotional support.

I decided to stop worrying and to go with my feelings. Since then I have met a lovely man and even gone as far as introducing him to my family.

Thank you for giving me the confidence to accept myself.
