Covid robbed me of everything
DEAR DEIDRE: Long Covid robbed me of my sense of smell and now I no longer want to live.
My appetite has vanished and I have absolutely no desire to eat at all.
I’m a 37-year-old single woman and had Covid two years ago.
My senses of smell and taste vanished, although when I got better, they didn’t come back.
After six months, the doctors told me they’d never return.
Since then, life has seemed hopeless. I no longer bother to cook or eat proper meals and get no pleasure from food.
I’ve been getting thinner and thinner, and I feel tired and sick.
My social life and love life have been affected too. I have no interest in going out any more.
Having sex feels empty and unsatisfying. I just can’t get turned on.
It feels like all the joy has been removed from my life. I feel I have no future and I might as well die.

DEIDRE SAYS: Smell and taste are undervalued by many people. But they are key senses, so it’s not surprising you’re feeling depressed.
Even if they don’t return, you can find ways to find enjoyment in life.
But you need mental health support.
See your GP and ask to be referred for counselling. See my support pack on this. You should also see a dietitian.
The charity longcovid.org will understand what you are going through and can offer support.
