When my dating life was shambles, you gave me hope
DEAR DEIDRE: THE man I was involved with for a year led me a merry dance before disappearing without a trace.
My next boyfriend repeatedly stood me up.
I wrote to you because I was exhausted by the dating scene and felt I’d never meet a decent, committed man.
I’m 34. All my friends are in couples and none have single friends.
I work in a school where most of my colleagues are women and I’m not into going to pubs or clubs.
So the only place to meet men was through dating sites.
You suggested I take a break and think about making new friends, rather than looking for romance. That way, I might meet men I had something in common with.
You also sent me support packs, Widening Your Social Scene and Finding The Love Of Your Life.
I found your advice very comforting. I realised I needed to stop pressuring myself and start enjoying life.
I came to see I was trying to ease my loneliness by dating.
I’ve since joined a gym and a choir, and I’ve made new friends – including some nice guys.
I feel so much happier.
Thank you.
