NO HELP

I’m pregnant yet my partner spends more time at the pub then he does with me

DEAR DEIDRE: THE pub is my partner’s first home. His second is with me and my son – but only when the boozer’s closed.

I thought I could handle it but I really can’t. I’m 31 and have a son from a previous relationship.

I have just found out I’m pregnant and my fella’s thrilled but I know he’ll do nothing to help me.

He’s 37 and a labourer.

He’s good-looking and I fancied him at first. But then he moved in and the attraction wore off.

He comes home for dinner then goes off to the pub, only returning after closing time. And the next day it happens all over again.

He tells me I knew what I was getting into, and I suppose I did, but I hoped he’d enjoy family life with me and would want to change.

Days out are planned around pubs and I always have to drive.

I think I might be better off bringing this baby up alone.

DEIDRE SAYS:  Perhaps, but being a single parent isn’t easy.

Tell him you need to see significant improvements if you are to bring up the new child together.

A baby deserves to have two loving parents where possible.

I’m sending you my support pack Dealing With A Problem Drinker, which has plenty of support groups and more advice within it.

When the baby arrives, if he’s still spending more time in the pub than at home, it may well be time for you to go it alone.
