DEAR DEIDRE: MY wife accused me of assaulting her when the truth is she lashed out at me.
I am 38 and my wife is 36. We have been together for ten years and have a five-year-old son.
Lately we have been arguing over money. Despite us both working, by the end of the month we’re always short.
She wants to spend non-stop and the last time she demanded cash, I refused.
It was the end of the month and we’d run out but she wouldn’t accept it.
She actually kicked and hit me. When I tried to defend myself she called the police who arrested me.

I was then released without charge when she decided not to press charges, but the damage has been done.
I am worried that she plans to take our son to Spain to live with her parents and she’s trying to turn me into the villain to excuse her behaviour.
If they leave, I know they won’t return and my son would grow up without me.
It’s a thought which terrifies me. So much so I am afraid to let him out of my sight and worry that one day I will come back to an empty house.
DEIDRE SAYS: Your wife should not have assaulted you, no matter what the provocation.
Please get urgent help from , which supports male victims of domestic abuse.
She has no right to take your son to live abroad without your knowledge or consent.
To do this secretly would be cruel and selfish – for him just as much as you.
She is not thinking about what is right for your son.
It would be wise to take legal advice. Visit your local Citizens Advice for more help.
