My best friend is leaving work and I can’t face my job without her
DEAR DEIDRE: MY best friend is about to leave work and I can’t face my job without her.
Seeing her gets me through every day, especially when I’m feeling stressed or down.
I’m on the brink of handing in my notice too, as being at work will be miserable once she has gone.
We’ve been working together for four years. I’m a 27-year-old guy and she’s 29.
She was my mentor when I first started and she has been so helpful and supportive.
After a few months, we started meeting outside work and I now see her as my best friend. She’s the only person I can talk to about anything and everything.
She’s got a new job somewhere else and I’m pretending I’m happy for her, as she’s so excited.
But I’m scared that if we aren’t together every day, our friendship will drift and work will be so tedious without her.

DEIDRE SAYS: Change is always scary.
This woman is clearly a fantastic, supportive friend and although you won’t see her as much once she has left, you can still stay close.
Your friendship will just have to adapt.
It will be weird for a while, but if you make an effort to keep in touch, you’ll remain best mates.
If you’re worried, why not tell her how much you’re going to miss her and how much you value her friendship?
You could arrange a time to meet after she has left, so you have something in the diary.
Tempting as it is, don’t hand in your notice without another job to go to. Start looking around for something else.
