Ever since my circumcision I can’t maintain an erection – my sex life is dying
DEAR DEIDRE: A FEW months ago I was circumcised because I was having a few problems.
Ever since then, my sex life has been suffering, and I can’t maintain an erection for more than a few minutes.
I feel so low, and while my girlfriend has been so understanding, I can’t help but feel like a failure.
I am 27 and she’s 24. We have been together for two years.
Before my operation, we had a great sex life and I’d never experienced any struggles.
Yet now every time we try to do anything intimate it always goes wrong. It’s rare that I can ever get an erection, and when I do it’s weak and barely lasts.
I miss our intimacy, and I feel awful that I can’t give her what she deserves.
Even though I needed it, a part of me can’t help but regret going through with the operation.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s not uncommon to experience erection problems after a circumcision but if your problems are persistent there may be more to it.
Sometimes circumcision scars have been shown to contain damaged nerve fibres which do not allow for normal sensations.
If you continue to experience problems you need to talk to your doctor.
