My wife opened up about being groomed as a child but she won’t report it
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN she was 12, my wife was groomed by a man in his thirties who she had met in the street.
Since telling me, she has become extremely withdrawn.
This man lived in a flat above a row of shops and he gradually gained her trust.
At first it was just the occasional chat but then he started buying her sweets.
He told her he had a kitten and invited her into his flat. His home was sparse and of course there was no kitten.
He had sex with her numerous times, which he occasionally filmed.

I’m 45 and my wife’s 43. We’ve been together for 15 years. We have a good relationship, even though sex has all but stopped.
My wife has accepted that this man is a paedophile but doesn’t want to go to the police.
I just want to help as it’s totally overwhelming her.
DEIDRE SAYS: It took a lot of courage for your wife to admit what happened to her.

My support pack Abused As A Child will show her where to find support.
She may not be persuaded to report him but if this man still has contact with children, she might be more likely to consider it.
Tell her how much you love her.
Try to reassure her that by getting support she will be able to move forward.
Talking to a sex and relationship therapist would benefit you both. COSRT (, 020 8106 9635) can help you find a reputable therapist.
