I’m sick of my girlfriend putting her pub loving best mate before me and her child
DEAR DEIDRE: My girlfriend spends her evenings getting drunk with her best mate, who I think is a leech who sucks the life out of her.
When they’re together, my girlfriend goes straight to the pub after work.
I’m a man of 35 and she’s 31.
My girlfriend works for the police and she has a daughter of five.
Unlike a lot of men, I don’t mind that she has a daughter – I love her and I’m happy to look after her.
She has a great relationship with my mum too. But my girlfriend’s best mate is a scumbag with a drinking problem.
She’s got into so many scrapes and called on my girlfriend to help her.
I’m left to do the school run and cook tea.

Twice recently, she didn’t come home, telling me there was a “family crisis” with her mate.
What can I do? I feel like a babysitter.
DEIDRE SAYS: She’s not being fair to you or her daughter.
In a quiet moment, explain to her that she needs to step up for both of you.
She’s not taking your relationship seriously and you’re worried about her.
Friendships can be important to provide balance but this one sounds damaging.
If she can’t see she needs to cut back on her boozing, you may have to accept that she’s not right for you.
Please contact the NSPCC for support on the best course for your girlfriend and her daughter.
