My girlfriend’s pregnant but I’ve secretly had the snip – has she cheated?

DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend has told me I’m going to be a dad again but I had a vasectomy seven years ago.

I’ve never told her that I am unable to have more children. I’m 47 and I have two kids from my marriage. She’s 36.

We’ve been seeing one another for almost a year and I wouldn’t describe it as serious.

We see one another once every week or so.

The sex has always been good and I use condoms for extra protection as you can’t be too careful these days.

She took me out for a great evening in March for my birthday.

Afterwards, we went back to her place and were so caught up in the moment we didn’t use a condom during sex.

She said she was worried we’d taken a big risk but secretly, I was thinking we’d be safe.

Now she’s told me that she is pregnant.

When I said to her, “Are you sure it’s mine?” she answered, “Of course” but she did look a little uncomfortable.

She’s always on her phone, messaging other friends I don’t know about.

Is she cheating on me?

DEIDRE SAYS:  You’ll have to be honest with her and tell her you’ve had a vasectomy and then judge her reaction.

If she is genuinely confused, then perhaps your vasectomy wasn’t successful – although this is rare.

Did you go for the after appointments to check the procedure had worked?

You can talk to your doctor for further advice.

If she is pregnant with your baby, it is still up to her to decide whether she continues with the pregnancy or not.

If she does, you’ll be obliged to support the child financially and I hope emotionally, too.

If she does admit that she’s cheated, then you’ve both got a lot of talking to do.
