DEAR DEIDRE: YEARS in an abusive relationship left me feeling so depressed that I was virtually suicidal.
My partner was controlling and had problems with alcohol and drugs. I was often left to care for our two young children alone.
I’m 28 and he is 33. Our children are eight and six. By the time I contacted you, I was desperate.
I no longer loved him but didn’t have the strength to walk away.
You said you were concerned for me and my children.
You reassured me that there was help out there, sending me your Abusive Partner support pack, and recommending that I call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline for advice (, 0808 2000 247).
It was what I needed to hear. Since then I have found a flat, and I’ve been having counselling.
