Nothing compares to my first love and I realise now that he was the one

DEAR DEIDRE: ALTHOUGH it’s been ten years since we split up, I can’t get over my first love.

I think about him all the time. We were together at school and I now realise he was “the one”.

We’re both 28 and were boyfriend and girlfriend from the age of 15 to 18.

We split up when I went to university, and I soon met someone else.

Since then, I’ve had several relationships but no one makes my heart flutter like he did.

We’re still in touch on social media, and whenever he likes my posts I feel thrilled.

I want to message him to tell him I love him and always have. But maybe I’m just in love with the idea of him, not the reality?

DEIDRE SAYS:  No other relationship ever matches the intensity of first love.

But it rarely lasts. People grow and change.

If he’s single, you could suggest meeting to see if you both feel the same.

But if he is in a relationship, it would be far better to focus on looking for someone new, who is suited to you now.

My support pack, Moving On, should help.
