LOVE SCAM

I’m desperate to find love but every time I try online dating, I attract scammers

DEAR DEIDRE: EVERY time I try online dating, I attract scammers.

I’m sick of being single but I now fear I’m destined to be alone forever.

How can I find a decent guy? I’m a 40-year-old woman who has never been married or had children.

I have a good job in management and a few close friends, yet I’m lonely.

But even though I’m nobody’s fool, I seem to attract the worst sort of men on dating apps.

They start off by asking me lots of questions, flattering me, saying we have the same interests.

Once I’ve started to like them, they ask for money.

I was stupid enough to send some to a guy I thought genuinely liked me. He said he needed it for a plane ticket to visit.

Of course, I never heard from him again and I was heartbroken.

DEIDRE SAYS:  Surely there are some honest, kind, single men out there, who are looking for a relationship.

Sadly, online dating is full of scammers, as well as people genuinely looking for love.

Although being conned is not your fault, perhaps you need to try different apps or change the criteria you’re searching for.
But online dating isn’t for everyone.

Loving and lasting relationships are usually based on friendship.

So meeting men you have something in common with – whether through an activity you enjoy or through a friend – has more chance of success.

My support pack, Finding The Love Of Your Life, has advice and tips.
