WILL WORRIES

I’m worried money has been taken from my share in dad’s will

DEAR DEIDRE: I DON’T know if I received all the money my dad left me in his will.

My brother is one of the executors and didn’t send me any details of how his assets were being split.

So I am worried in case I am not getting what I should.

I received £20,000, as did five other members of the family.

Years ago I borrowed some money from my dad to buy a car. He said I didn’t need to repay him and so I never did.

Now I am concerned that it might have been deducted from the money I was left in the will without me knowing. I’m 42 and my husband is 44.

My husband thinks the amount I’ve received is correct.

He also told me not to contact my brother about it, but I simply want to know for certain that I received the right amount from my father’s will.

DEIDRE SAYS: The firm that prepared the will often keep the original signed document, or may keep a record of where the original was sent.

Once a grant of probate has been issued, a will is a public document.

This means that anyone can apply to have a copy of it.
