DEAR DEIDRE: I WAS looking forward to retiring next year and thought my husband would give up his job and retire too.

The plan was that we could then spend time together.

I suggested we give the woman another call to arrange a second date but he didn’t want it to become a regular thing

He is past retirement age but carried on working, as I was.

I’m 62 and my husband’s 67. We’ve been married for 35 years.

He won’t say for definite that he’s not going to retire, but keeps saying he’s needed in his job, and he really enjoys it.

I worry he won’t want to give up when I do and I’ll be left on my own.

I’m hurt that my husband would rather be with his workmates than me.

I’m seriously thinking of not retiring so I won’t be lonely.
