Worrying about the cost of living is making me so anxious I can’t sleep
DEAR DEIDRE: WORRYING about the cost of living is making me so anxious I can’t get a wink of sleep.
I lie awake fretting that I won’t be able to buy food or keep warm, or even that I’ll end up homeless.
I’m a 32-year-old guy who lives alone, and I can’t talk to anyone about this.
I have a job but it’s not well-paid and my rent is high.
Every time I turn on the TV or go on social media, it’s filled with people moaning about their electricity bills or the price of food.
It’s the same down the pub. It feels like there’s no escape from the relentless bleakness.

I’m starting to get sick with stress, and the other day I think I may have had a panic attack.
How do I stop myself worrying about this stuff?

DEIDRE SAYS: It is a worrying time and it’s natural to be concerned, but you’re becoming so anxious that it’s spoiling your enjoyment of life.
A panic attack comes when our bodies are flooded with adrenaline which accompanies fear.
Learn to recognise how your thoughts can trigger physical feelings – and remind yourself the feelings of breathlessness or dizziness are because of this fear, not because you are actually being attacked.
