Mum has always favoured my sister, but now she’s the devil with dementia

DEAR DEIDRE: MUM has always favoured my sister over me, but now she’s got dementia she’s making my life hell.
She’s sweet to my sister but screams at me for the slightest thing.
I’m 48 and my mum is 80. My sister is 51.
If I make Mum food, she tells me it’s horrible, throws it back in my face, and says my sister knows how to cook.
She puts me down and calls me stupid. I feel like I’m walking on eggshells.

My sister doesn’t help matters – she’s always been a control freak and, now she’s got Mum’s power of attorney, she lords it over me.
They make me feel useless. It’s making me so depressed.

But her Alzheimer’s is making her abusive, and you need to think about your own mental health.
She has your sister. If it’s getting too much, take a break.
