Anonymous letter told me perfect daughter, 14, is a prostitute
DEAR DEIDRE: I FELT like the luckiest mum alive as my 14-year-old daughter is friendly, polite and brilliant at sport.
But recently someone sent me an anonymous letter saying she is involved in prostitution.
I’m 46 and can’t tell you how worried I am. I haven’t been able to sleep or eat since.
I’ve been racking my brain for any clues. She has been buying a lot of clothes and make-up recently and she has been staying with friends a lot too.
She was never interested in boys before but does seem to hang out with a group of slightly older boys a lot more now.

How do I talk to her about this?
I can’t even begin to formulate the words.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are absolutely right, you do need to talk to her.
Bear in mind this person may have contacted you to be spiteful.
All the behaviour you have described is completely normal for a teenage girl and may well be totally harmless.
But you need to ensure she is safe and isn’t being exploited.
Choose a quiet, calm moment when you won’t be interrupted.
