I cared for our dad but it’s my brother that’s getting everything
DEAR DEIDRE: VIRTUALLY nothing is being left to me in my dad’s will, even though I’m the only person in the family who has cared for him.
He’s giving almost everything to my brother, who has always been useless and mean. It’s so unfair.

I’m 47 and I’ve done so much for Dad over the years, ever since my mum died.
He thinks my brother needs the money more than me but that’s his own fault.
I’ve helped Dad, who’s 80, move home, sorted out his paperwork, organised his medical care, sat with him for hours.
My brother has done nothing but get into debt.
Of course, Dad’s made me executor, so I’ll have all the mess to deal with but none of the benefits.

It’s not about the money – there isn’t much – but the principle.
I just want to be recognised for being a good daughter.

DEIDRE SAYS: Naturally, you want to feel loved and appreciated.
This unfairness must feel like a kick in the teeth but your dad hasn’t done this to hurt you.
Try talking to him and explaining how you feel.
