Lockdown has left me with crippling social anxiety and I can’t socialise anymore
DEAR DEIDRE: I GOT so used to spending time on my own during lockdown that now I find it daunting to go out and socialise again.
I’m 21 and live on my own. Before the pandemic, I hated spending time alone.

In the first lockdown, I spent every night doing a virtual pub quiz or on Zoom with friends.
But slowly, I started to enjoy the moments to myself.
I was able to try new hobbies and work on myself. But now I’m finding I don’t really want to go out.
I think it’s still because I’m nervous about doing or saying the wrong thing.

But there is a balance. Do try to follow through on some plans with your friends.
You don’t have to say yes to everything but seeing mates regularly helps us stay connected.
If meeting with a group seems a little overwhelming, arrange to have coffee or lunch with just one of them.
