I fell for my online chess pal – but now he wants me to move to Slovakia
DEAR DEIDRE: I AM thinking of moving 900 miles away to live with a Slovakian I met playing online chess.
I am 23 and female, he is 27 and we have been “together” for a year.

I have always been introverted. I find it hard to make friends and have never been in a relationship before.
I hate going out and partying. My ideal night is staying in and playing games on my PC.
My favourite is online chess. That’s how I met my boyfriend.
We played a few matches together and then he messaged me in the game chat box.
Conversation flowed and we ended up exchanging phone numbers. Now we FaceTime every day.
He wants me to move to Slovakia so we can finally be together. I think it’s a good idea.
He can’t move here because of his sick mum.

Why don’t you arrange a weekend or two together over there, or here, to get to know one another better.
It would be good for you to get a feel for his country before you make such a big commitment.
