My dog has cancer and is suffering but he is my only friend – what should I do?
DEAR DEIDRE: I AM having to take my beloved dog to the vet to be put to sleep.
He has been struggling to walk and even stand recently.
I took him to the vet and it was found he has bone cancer. I am inconsolable.
I have had him since he was a puppy and he is my only true friend.
I am a single man aged 36.
He is only eight but I cannot let him suffer like this. I don’t know how I will cope.

DEIDRE SAYS: I am so sorry.
I was heartbroken when I had to take our beloved family dog to be put to sleep but the vet handled it very tactfully, it was a peaceful process and our dog passed very calmly.
As you say, you will be releasing him from suffering but your grief will be deep and real.
