My son & daughter-in-law told us they had sex in the loo — we were mortified
DEAR DEIDRE: MY son and daughter-in-law came into the garden and she announced that they’d just had sex in the downstairs loo.
It was one of those “tumbleweed moments”. Nobody knew where to look, including my grandsons, aged 21 and 18.
My daughter-in-law is their stepmum. I’m 70, while my son is 45 and his wife – his second marriage – is 38.
She is a difficult person and for years she pulled my son away from seeing his boys, so I lost touch with them too.
My son finally realised he’d neglected his sons so he arranged for us all to get together under the rules for Covid.
Me and my grandsons got on like a house on fire but my daughter-in-law was jealous. Whenever she was around, the atmosphere was terrible.
She showed herself up by shouting about their sex life in public like that. I really felt for the boys.

DEIDRE SAYS: It takes two and your son could have said no.
I am sure your grandsons were caught off guard by this at the time. But I bet they would rather have you and their dad back in their life, even if he has an embarrassing partner.
Your daughter-in-law is less likely to act out if she feels more confident within the family.
Invite her for a one-to-one walk and talk so you can tell her you are pleased to see her accepting the boys.
