I can’t stand another Christmas with my husband as he’s so controlling
DEAR DEIDRE: THIS is probably the last Christmas I will have with my husband.
He can’t be bothered and I don’t think I can any more. We are both 42 and have nothing in common. He is controlling.
When we visit my family he sets the alarm on his phone for us to leave after an hour. He never does that with his family.
I took great care choosing gifts which I wrapped and put under the tree for him and his family.
He just dumped gifts next to me, without even a smile, which I’d had to choose for myself and he’d only reluctantly paid for.
He never plans anything or takes me on dates. I feel disheartened.

But your husband may not realise he’s being controlling and comes across as unloving unless you give him the feedback.
Explain how fed up you feel and that this is a wake-up call – either he is more attentive or you leave. And no more setting the alarm.
