I got drunk at my birthday do and my husband won’t even speak to me now
DEAR DEIDRE: I GOT drunk at my birthday do and my husband won’t even speak to me now.
We have always had a very strong relationship. I am a guy of 33, he is 42.
I like a drink more than he does.
He organised a birthday get-together for me with four friends but warned me beforehand not to overdo it.
That upset me, as it made feel under scrutiny.
The evening was a great success but I got drunk after our friends had left and shouted about how he tries to control my life.
I don’t know why I said it. He encourages me – and I told him so when I apologised.
I keep saying I love him but he’s barely speaking to me. If I ask him how he is, he says: “Fine.” End of conversation.
Do I keep saying sorry or wait for him to come round?

DEIDRE SAYS: You were out of order but sulking solves nothing.
Tell your husband silence clearly isn’t healing his hurt feelings and you need to communicate.
The Relate book Stop Arguing, Start Talking by Susan Quilliam is a helpful guide.
