My boyfriend’s parents made him split up with me but I still want a relationship
DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend’s parents have made him split up with me because we are from different cultures, though both our families are from India.
We met at college. I am 18 and he is 19. When we met I realised he was everything I wanted.

We started dating and my family were OK with that but, when his mum found out, she said he can’t see me again, even as a friend.
He has not called or sent me a text now for a couple of weeks.
My friends say he has moved on but I don’t think he would have. He said he loved me.
DEIDRE SAYS: Cultural pressures can be very strong.
If your boyfriend feels he must abide by his mother’s wishes it’s best for you both to make a determined effort to move on.
Feeling rejected or that your heart is broken is an important learning stage as you mature – and teaches resilience.
If you could do with confidential and understanding support, contact The Mix who help under-25s (, 0808 808 4994).
