CAN'T KEEP UP

I’m desperate for a sexual relationship but haven’t been able to get an erection for ten years

DEAR DEIDRE:  I HAVEN’T been able to get an erection for nearly ten years because of a family problem with high blood pressure.

I saw a doctor in the early days. We tried changing the meds and taking different erection tablets but no joy.

Eventually my relationship with my children’s mother broke down under the strain.

So I have gone through lockdown alone, a young-at-heart 45-year-old who knows more than ever that I want a sexual relationship.

I’ve done some research and decided an inflatable implant is what I need.

The problem is, it would cost up to £15,000, which I would struggle to find.

But I really think being able to get something like an erection will boost my confidence and help me get back out there soon and find a partner.

Do you think it’s a good idea?

DEIDRE SAYS: I’d really worry about any man getting irreversible surgery in the hope it will help him find a partner.

Many women find an implant more off-putting than an erection problem.

An implant might be something to consider along with a partner, but it’s far from guaranteed to net you one.

Men often over-estimate the important of erections to women.

You can give a woman loads of sexual pleasure and satisfaction without being fully aroused.

See your GP again for a reassessment and ask for a referral to a specialist. Treatment has progressed over the past decade.
