I MISS HIM

My dad has gone into care with dementia but I can’t see him because of coronavirus

DEAR DEIDRE:  BECAUSE he has dementia and kept having bad falls, my 81-year-old father has gone into care.

Things aren’t going well. Dad was never an easy person and his dementia makes him difficult. He lashes out and is nasty to his care team.

I’m a woman of 58. My brother and I feel awful as we can’t visit him due to the virus.

Dad doesn’t use technology so that’s out. I keep breaking down with the stress.

DEIDRE SAYS: This is a heart-breaking situation.

Your father’s carers are professional and, I’m sure, understand that his illness is responsible for his behaviour. Why not share your worries with them so they can reassure you?

Maybe they can organise for your dad to see you through a window.
