Correction: Call That Fare?

In a story “Call That Fare?” (6 Jan) we accidentally misattributed salaries for platform staff and ticket sellers. We stated that wages for ‘platform staff’ soared from £30,500 in 2008 to around £45,000 in 2018 whereas salaries, while varying throughout the regions, were about £24,000 in 2008 and currently range from £17,500 to £27,000. Ticket sellers were quoted as earning £24,000-£27,000 in 2008 and £36,000 today whereas the correct average figure show a rise from about £16,000 to £27,000. Drivers are currently on about £47,000 and not £63,000 as shown in a graphic. We are happy to clarify and apologise to rail staff.
