Dexter Fletcher – Apology
In our 9 July 2023 article “READ ALL ABOUT IT Where Press Gang cast are now – from X Factor blunder to real-life romance with EastEnders husband” we wrongly reported that in 1991 Dexter Fletcher was arrested for stealing two bunches of flowers, worth £5, from a stall belonging to the Great Train Robber, Buster Edwards, and he told the court they were for his co-star Julia Sawalha.
The article said “Buster identified him because he’d seen Dexter’s film The Rachel Papers a few days before.
"He pleaded guilty and was given a 12 month suspended sentence and ordered to pay £30.”
We published a similar claim on 18 May 2019 which reported that Mr Fletcher was given a conditional discharge in relation to the same incident.
We accept that Mr Fletcher was not arrested for stealing a bunch of flowers in 1991 and that Mr Fletcher has never been convicted of a criminal offence. We also wrongly reported that Mr Fletcher has four children when he does not in fact have any children. We apologise to Mr Fletcher for the embarrassment caused.
