BOURNEMOUTH will seek to complete the double over Manchester United when the teams meet at the Vitality Stadium in the Saturday evening kick-off.

Midtable Bournemouth have little to play for. But United are in a scrap for a top-six place and can’t afford any more slip-ups.

Bournemouth vs Man Utd betting preview

Bournemouth’s three-match winning streak came to an abrupt halt with a 2-1 loss away to Luton Town last Saturday. The Cherries had beaten Luton (4-3), Everton (2-1) and Crystal Palace (1-0) during that winning streak.

Rather disappointingly for Andoni Iraola's men, the three home wins are bookended by a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United and the defeat to Luton last Saturday.

Despite that, the Cherries have already exceeded last season’s points total. So with seven games remaining, it would have to be classed as a successful season for the South Coast team.

Manchester United can forget about the top four and Champions League football. They are now 11 points behind Aston Villa who sit fifth.

The writing seems to be on the wall at Old Trafford. Sir Jim Radcliffe has been placing his own people in the top jobs at the club, and it looks increasingly obvious that the Ineos group are working their way down to the manager.

And who could blame them? United should have been hammered by Brentford and also by Liverpool. The amount of chances they have been giving up in recent weeks is shocking.

Such is United’s inability to defend as a team, the once under fire André Onana, is starting to look like their best player. He has been a one-man defence at times.

As a result of United’s recent record, both teams to score is just 2/5. That’s an incredible price considering Manchester United is supposed to be one of the top teams in the Premier League.

But despite all this, a Europa League place is still up for grabs for the Red Devils. And for some reason, this looks like one of those games that United could go and somehow win. Maybe in a smash-and-grab.

Bournemouth vs Man Utd key stats

  • Bournemouth are 12th in the Premier League table with 41 points from 31 matches. In 2022/23, they finished with 39 points.
  • Manchester United sit sixth on 49 points from 31 matches. West Ham and Newcastle are one and two points behind, respectively.
  • Bournemouth will be without Marcus Tavernier, Luis Sinisterra and Ryan Fredericks.
  • Man Utd are without Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Anthony Martial. There is barely a fit defender at the club.
  • In the head-to-head, United have beaten the Cherries 14 times. There have been three draws and Bournemouth have won four times.
  • One of Bournemouth’s four wins was in the reverse fixture this season, where the Cherries won 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Both teams to score and Man Utd to win 11/4 (Spreadex)

Such has been United’s form of late, they are longer odds than Bournemouth in this market.

The Cherries are well able to win this match. But this feels like a match that United could sneak. Bournemouth don’t have a great record against the top six. They did win 3-0 in the reverse fixture. But that also makes us feel that United will get revenge.

Totally a hunch bet. But let’s go for both teams to score and United to sneak the win.

Back both teams to score and United to win at 11/4 with Spreadex

Kobbie Mainoo to have over 0.5 shots (bet365)

Kobbie Mainoo had a strange match against Liverpool last weekend. He was caught out on more than one occasion at Old Trafford, and totally against the norm, he scored a spectacular goal to give United the lead.

Unless Mainoo finds himself in a permanent defensive role (and let’s face it, given United’s injury list he may do so), we can see him trying his luck again against the Cherries. He will have a taste for it, and we expect him to try again.

Just to attempt a shot, not get one on target, Mainoo is 5/4 with bet365. It was 7/4. So get on quickly before the price disappears.

Back Kobbie Mainoo to have over 0.5 shots at 5/4 with bet365

Andre Onana over 4+ saves 4/5 (Sky Bet)

Andre Onana made six saves against Liverpool last Sunday. Against Chelsea, it was six, and against goal-shy Brentford, it was four.

The previously much-maligned Ten Hag signing is fast becoming a fan favourite. And it’s not hard to see why as at times he looks like a one-man defence.
