Sheffield United vs Chelsea betting preview

Chris Wilder saw his team throw away a two-goal lead in the closing stages of a crazy second half against Fulham last Saturday.

Then on Thursday, he watched his team produce a gutsy backs-against-the-wall performance against Liverpool, giving the title-chasing Reds a bit of a scare at a tense Anfield.

When the stats show that United had just 17% possession, and Liverpool had 29 shots compared to Sheffield's five, the 3-1 win looks comfortable. But with the score at 1-1 with just 15 minutes left, it felt anything but for Liverpool fans.

Unfortunately for Chris Wilder, two late goals condemned the Blades to their 21st Premier League defeat of the season. The United manager has seen it before, and no doubt knew it was coming again.

But if you thought those goals were late arriving, what about Chelsea’s two strikes in the dying seconds of their 4-3 win over Manchester United on Thursday?

The Blues had already chucked away a two-goal lead, leaving the home fans exasperated as, yet again, they couldn’t hold onto a lead.

What followed was amazing. First, Cole Palmer equalised from the spot after 10 minutes of stoppage time. And then he fired in the winner a minute later. Palmer now has five goals in Chelsea’s last two matches.

Where would Mauricio Pochetino be without the former Manchester City man this season?

Even given Chelsea’s erratic form of late, it’s difficult to see them leaving the northwest with anything less than three points on Sunday.

Chelsea to score over 2.5 goals (Spreadex)

The Blues scored four against Manchester United and two against Burnley in their two most recent outings. In their last six in all competitions, Chelsea has scored 18, an average of three a game.

Sheffield United just can’t defend. They’ve conceded 80 goals in 30 league matches. It could be another long day against a Chelsea side that likes to attack.

Back Chelsea to score over 2.5 goals at 1/1 with Spreadex

Chelsea (-2) to win on the handicap (bet365)

The temptation here is to play safe and just back Chelsea to win from -1. That price is 1/1, which looks like a good value bet.

But when you look at the Blades' recent home record, they have conceded five to Aston Villa, five to Brighton, six to Arsenal and three to Fulham.

Only against Fulham would this bet have not won in their last four home matches. And we feel it’s worth the extra small risk against a side like Chelsea, who are scoring plenty if nothing else.

Back Chelsea (-2) to win on the handicap at 9/4 with bet365

Cole Palmer to score and Chelsea to win (Sky Bet)

We’ve already asked the question, where would Mauricio Pochetino be without Cole Palmer? Well, he could name his own scrap heap.

In recent weeks, Palmer has carried the team more and more. He has six in his last three in the Premier League, taking his season’s league tally to 16.

Probably the best team in the league to continue a scoring run against is Sheffield United.
